With a slew of announcements coming out of star wars Celebrating 2022, it’s no surprise that there have been some, well…surprises. This time it was the reveal that new content and destinations are coming to the 35-year-old classic Disney parks attraction, Star Tours.

What is happening:

  • Earlier tonight at Star Wars Celebration 2022, it was revealed that new content and destinations are coming to Disney Parks‘ ever-popular Star Tours attraction.
  • Celebrating its 35th anniversary, Star Tours opened its doors in Disneyland Park at Tomorrowland, replacing the legendary Adventure Thru Innerspace, presented by Monsanto.
  • Very innovative for its time, the star wars the themed attraction used military-grade flight simulators to replicate a journey through the star wars galaxy, traveling (but unsuccessfully) to the moon of Endor before inadvertently getting caught in the middle of a comet field, and finally in the middle of a fight around (and in the trenches of) the star of the death.
  • The attraction proved so successful that it opened in Disney Parks around the world, with four Star Tours “ports” at Disneyland, Walt Disney WorldTokyo Disneyland and Disneyland Paris.
  • Although rumored since Episode 1 premiered in 1999, Star Tours did not receive any kind of upgrades or additional content and destinations until 2010 when the attraction closed for installation from Star Tours: The Adventures Continue, which opened in 2011. With this was the debut of more than six different, randomly selected destinations that passengers can experience with other variables included as part of the attraction. With the premiere of the new films in the Skywalker saga, more destinations and characters have been added to the attraction.
  • Notably, the reveal of new content for Star Tours didn’t happen at the next Star Tours panel, although when that panel does, we might get more details about the new content, and which characters and destinations we can check out. expect to see in the classic Disney Parks Attraction.
  • In the meantime, Star Tours is celebrating its 35th anniversary, and you can too with special anniversary merchandise that can be found in the parks. Take a look at the treasure of Star Tours here.
