BREAKING: Platinum Ticket Winner Kenedi Anderson Quits ‘American Idol’ Abruptly

ABC american idol returned Monday night with Top 24 performances, but an unexpected departure left just 23 candidates to compete for the U.S. vote.

Kenedi Anderson took to the outdoor stage at Aulani, a Disney Resort & Spa in Ko Olina, Hawaii, for a performance of Christina Perri’s “Human.”

Before her performance, Anderson, 17, met guest mentor Bebe Rexha and even FaceTimed with Perri.

Following his superb rendition of ‘Human’, host Ryan Seacrest revealed, “You’ll notice there was no voting information during Kenedi’s performance earlier. Since we taped these shows in Hawaii earlier, Kenedi (or Kennnedy Anderson) chose to step down from our show for personal reasons, and we send him our best wishes.

Following Seacrest’s announcement, Anderson posted the following on his Instagram: “For personal reasons, I cannot continue on American Idol. It was one of the hardest decisions I’ve ever had to make, but I know it’s necessary.

Her statement continued, “I am so grateful to American Idol, the judges, the producers, the amazing contestants, and all of the fans who have supported me. Thank you for giving me such an amazing opportunity to share my voice, to pursue my dreams, to feel so much joy and happiness doing what I love, and to make lifelong friends along the way.

For her audition, Kenedi stunned the judges with her rendition of Lady Gaga’s “Applause.”

Luke Bryan said she “might be the biggest star we’ve ever seen,” and Katy Perry added, “She was born to be a star.”

She was just one of only three Platinum tickets handed out during the audition process this season.

The results for the remaining competitors will be revealed next Sunday, April 17 at 8/7c EST on ABC during a three-hour Top 20 special.
