This iconic balloon has made stops at the Grand Canyon, Seattle, San Francisco and, of course, Disneyland, showcasing a limited-time pair of golden ears for The Happiest Homecoming on Earth, Disneyland’s name for their celebration of the 50th anniversary. Kait tells her viewers that seeing the opportunity to fly that magical balloon again makes one wonder why it wasn’t made part of the Disney World celebration.

The Disney Parks Blog revisited the story of this balloon in 2012, when The Happiest Balloon on Earth participated in the 11th annual International Balloon Festival in León, Guanajuato, Mexico, along with at least 200 other balloons from around the world. By then, Mickey had received a magical makeover that removed his celebratory golden ears but kept the character’s charm and smile. During this festival, Mickey Mouse flew past a record crowd of over 350,000 spectators, not counting the tens of thousands who watched from outside the festival over the four days.
