Disney World’s Genie Park Planner launches on October 19. Here is how it works |


ORLANDO, Fla .– Disney Genie, Walt Disney World’s new park planning service, will launch on October 19, the company has revealed.

Disney provided reporters with a preview of Genie in the company’s first major update to the system since its announcement in August. The creators of Genie have shown the app as it appears in its final testing phase, although details may change ahead of public release.

Genie’s Basic Service is designed to help visitors maximize their time at Disney Parks by recommending the best times to visit attractions and dine to avoid the crowds.

Visitors select their must-see attractions, restaurants, and experiences, and Genie compares the availability of those options with the user’s existing maps to suggest itineraries. Its algorithm allows for changes due to factors such as customer preferences, ride closures and inclement weather.

Genie itself is free, but visitors can pay $ 15 per day for Genie +, the main feature of which is the reservation of skip-the-line attractions. Its Lightning Lane reservation system has caused disputes since Disney confirmed it was replacing the free FastPass + service.

Here’s what we saw at the Genie premiere.

Genie was designed to appeal to everyone who visits Disney World, from first-time guests to die-hard fans. The service featured this week showed Genie on the home screen of the My Disney Experience app.

Visitors using Genie first select the number of attractions they want to browse. In the preview, users were limited to choosing eight.

The next screen allowed visitors to tell Genie their interests to choose from additional experiences. The categories included “Disney favorites,” such as princesses, villains, and pirates; “Park Interests”, such as character meet and greet, events and tours, park classics and seasonal experiences; and “Gastronomic interests” in the park, such as character dining, casual dining, and fine or “signature” meals.

Genie then asks if users need information about height requirements or accessibility amenities for rides and experiences – selections that, if enabled, appear below the ride information on the suggested route. .

Then, users have the option to pay for Lightning Lane to access specific rides. The first options offered include attractions at “à la carte” prices, or per person, per trip. Visitors can choose up to two per day, and their price varies daily. Sample pricing for Genie’s Tuesday launch date included $ 15 for Rise of the Resistance, $ 10 for Seven Dwarfs Mine Train, $ 9 for Remy’s recently opened Ratatouille adventure, and $ 7 for Expedition Everest.

The next step allows guests with Genie + to choose a selection to skip the line on specific rides. Genie + users can usually only have one of this type of Lightning Lane selection at a time, but they can keep two if the next available time for the second attraction is more than two hours away.

The service interface is similar to how old Disney World FastPass + selections worked, and the system works the same way MaxPass works at Disneyland.

In seconds, Genie offers users a suggested and personalized itinerary.

The itinerary also includes suggestions for additions based on the interests selected by the user. If a user changes their plans or veto a suggestion, the program readjusts the schedule. Genie continually updates its recommendation if the algorithm finds better options.

Visitors planning to park later in the day can also schedule their time at the next park after 2 p.m., but customers don’t have to scan the next park ahead of time. The park jump screen asks them to enter their estimated arrival and departure times at the next park, and the selection process begins again.

Genie also includes an “advisor” who shows actual and expected wait times for attraction wait lines and offers suggestions on whether Lightning Lane options would be more effective. There is also a meal advice board that can show the next available hours for restaurants and mobile orders.

An in-app virtual “cast member chat” can help resolve scheduling issues or issues with ticket or park pass linking.

The paid tier of Genie + will also launch with around 20 AR lenses, similar to Snapchat or Instagram filters, which turn guests into characters like Genie or various Disney villains. Over 40 “audio stories” within Genie + provide park information and details on popular attractions.

Lightning Lane options à la carte

These are the individually priced attractions available when Genie + launches, although Disney may change this list in the future. Prices vary depending on the time of year.
