Large crane arrives at Disney’s Blizzard Beach water park for undisclosed project

Passing the still-closed Blizzard Beach today, we spotted a towering yellow crane above the site, as per permit applications we first reported on in April.

The large crane is different from the disassembled red crane we spotted in the parking lot last month. Disney hasn’t announced exactly which rides will be renovated. The drop yard listed in the permits is closest to Runoff Rapids on the Red Slopes and Downhill Double Dipper, Snow Stormers and Toboggan Racers on the Purple Slopes.

Permit applications from last month also indicate that a new attraction may be on its way to Blizzard Beach. The permit is to “install exhibits”. The contractor is Brilliant Fabrication, which has worked on other theme park projects, including Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind. It’s possible that the show items will go to a pre-existing attraction, or that Blizzard Beach will get a new attraction entirely.

Disney’s Blizzard Beach closed for its annual renovation earlier this year. It was originally supposed to reopen in March, but that’s been extended through May and likely beyond, with no end in sight yet. Typhoon Lagoon remains open to guests.
